Top 8 Singles: January 28 – February 3 ft. Onyx, Skyzoo & Jamo Gang

With our Top 8 Singles list, we present the top 8 singles based on our staff picks.

This week our staff has chosen another 8 from January 28 through February 3. This week’s list is led by singles from Onyx, Skyzoo & Jamo Gang.

Onyx ft. Skyzoo – I’ma F*ckin Rockstar

Years before anyone told you to “give up the goods,” Queens craziest Bal-Hed sons, Onyx, were already busy taking the Golden Era’s loot and taking it to new heights.  In the process they stamped the term “hardcore” in its darkest terms across the Hip-Hop vernacular with their trailblazing platinum debut Bacdafucup (under the guidance of their departed mentor and producer Jam Master Jay), which included the indelible singles “Slam” and “Throw Ya Gunz.”

Skyzoo – Crown Holder (prod. by !llmind)

In Celebration of Us is easily the most complex, most layered and most important work to date, no debates in Skyzoo’s distinguished career. His greatest piece thus far.  Produced by Illmind, Apollo Brown, Daringer, Marc Nfinit, Cardiak, Tuamie, Ave Prod., Seige Monstracity, and Arte Mitchell. No rap features, Skyzoo got enough raps. These are stories that, like The Salvation, he preferred to tell on his own. Sky has never been this meticulous about an album in his life. Conceptually, this is Ta-nehisi Coates meets Chappelle’s Show meets The Autobiography of Malcolm X meets Blackish meets the case of Sandra Bland meets the birth of Air Jordans. It’s intense. And it’s beautiful!!

Jamo Gang ft. Snak The Ripper – The Altar

Ahead of the release of Jamo Gang’s self-titled EP, the group (MCs El Gant, Ras Kass and producer J57) have shared the first single, “All Eyes On Us,” and today, a day before their new EP is released, they share “The Altar,” featuring Snak The Ripper.
