Nicki Minaj talks new album with DJ Whoo Kid.
Nicki Minaj heads into the release of her third studio Album, The Pinkprint, today. She called into DJ Whoo Kid‘s The Whoolywood Shuffle touching on an array of subjects. Many may know that there has been media speculation between Lil Wayne and Birdman (or Baby as Nicki calls him). Affirming the listeners that YMCMB is currently in good standing, Nicki states that love conquers all and they’re all a family. Nicki believes that everyone is aiming at the Label, this is due to her stating when you’re at the top, there’s only one place to aim at.
Clearing all the rumors, Nicki delves into the approach she had taken into The Pinkprint. Jay Z’s The Blueprint had inspired the Album title for Nicki, as she grew up in New York City and looked up to Jay growing up. When she was in Paris she ran into Jay and Beyonce, and found out Jay was a huge fan of “Chiraq” and “Looking A## N###a”. Finding that out had geeked her out incredibly.
Working with Beyonce was a huge honor to Nicki, and she revealed that she felt the opportunity may have never arisen. This is due to her risqué behavior and image not coinciding with Beyonce’s brand. To find out that her remix to “Flawless” was going to be the official remix was crazy to Nicki, and then “Feelin’ Myself” (on The Pinkprint) leaked and hit number 1 on the Billboard Trending 140 without officially being released on iTunes.
Nicki closes out the interview talking about the reason for not releasing a “CoCo” remix, breaking records such as “Danny Glover” and “No Flex Zone”, and what’s up with her and Meek Mill and which record he was supposed to be on which incarceration had held back. The Pinkprint hits retailers today, with most pre-orders getting fulfilled yesterday.
