G.C. – Talks ‘Reborn’ EP & Loaded Lux Collaboration

G.C. - Talks 'G.C. X Jordan River Banks – Reborn' EP & Loaded Lux Collaboration

Bronx, New York emcee G.C. a.k.a. Godz Chyld presents the music video for ‘Crazy‘, a single from Reborn, his collaboration EP with producer Jordan River Banks, featuring Killah Priest and Loaded Lux. Reborn is followup to their first collaboration Forever. GC’s last release was Re-Member. ‘Crazy’ is one of my fav songs on this project,” GC says. “It’s about the paradox of the world we live in. The world is so crazy these days that it makes a sane person seem crazy for not going along. This video is a representation of the unrest and the rebellion of the sane.”

SFHH: “Crazy” represents a much darker sound then we have recently been hearing from you. What inspired it and how did you write it?

G.C.: The beat more than anything brought that out of me. When I heard that beat it put me in that mode and it went from there. That beat was so amazing and dark and deep that it brought all those memories of growing up in the hood and those emotions and feelings out of me and that brought me to the thoughts of where society is now. People don’t even care about the hood anymore. These rappers just talk about how rich they are and they talk down to the hood and the hood supports that. I feel like that’s crazy! And then it’s like the world is so backwards too that it makes a sane person seem crazy. It’s ok to be everything other than a person that just wants to do right and live their life righteously. People who want that are crazy these days but they’re really sane so the song is about that paradox. I think it’s dope but it’s also true which is what makes it so deep.

SFHH: How did the experience of your second collaboration with Jordan River Banks differ from the first?

G.C.:  I took more time on the songs. This time I wanted to make sure my verses sounded exactly how I wanted so I switched lines around that I thought I could make better and I went a little deeper on this project. I didn’t really wanna hold back at all. On Forever it was more me introducing myself. Now on this project I was talking about something that was really going on in my life. The whole Reborn concept was me studying a lot of spiritual concepts again and getting back into that mode and me feeling like that’s what’s needed in these days. We’re living in a crazy time and I think people are falling away from the things that make us great as a people. Now it’s all about being for self and ego and greed and I think those things are destroying us so I gave a rebirth to that spirituality and truth into hip hop. I thought now was a good time.

SFHH: How did the collaboration with Loaded Lux go down?

G.C.:  Pretty much I hit him up and he was down so we just went from there. He sent back a crazy verse and I was excited when I heard it and saw how he spazzed out on the beat. Later on down the line when we were almost done with the project I hit him up to see if he’d be down for the video and he was and I was real excited and thankful for him doing that. That was a ill day and he showed mad love so I appreciate that.

SFHH: How is the album being received in general as opposed to your previous releases? Are you noticing a difference in fan reaction?

G.C.:  Everybody who has heard it loves it and I feel like this is my best project. Every time I hear it from front to back I love every single song and a lot of people really love this project. Different people have different favorite songs and that’s what’s up because I feel like there’s something on there for different kinds of people. I’ve even had my favorite emcees show love when they’ve heard this and tell me it’s a classic. That means a lot to me and that’s gonna stay with me so I’m real proud of the way this has been received.

SFHH: What kind of year do you think 2017 is going to be for your career?

G.C.:  This is gonna be a year where people see more of me I’m always making music so that’s nothing new, but I’m dropping way more music videos than I have in the past and I’m gonna be more visible. My talent’s going to shine this year and I plan on dropping more projects this year too. I’m just not gonna stop because I can’t. I’m a real lover of hip hop and my love for it is pure. I’m not a fake artist. I put my real life in my songs and I’m gonna continue doing that and whenever people catch on they’re gonna have a lot of music to catch up on.
