What can you tell us about MSP? How did you guys first meet?
Santa Sallet: Nemizzo and I met in high school. I had just transferred to the French School in Johannesburg, South Africa. I was already rapping. Nemizzo, Ne-Enemy at the time, played drums and taught me how to beat box. He would eventually introduce me to FL Studio 3 and beat making. Back then, we already recognized the magic and created MSP.
Pay Up” is a dope track. What inspired you to write it and what was that process like?
Nemizzo: “Pay Up” is a track that everybody can relate too. What inspired the song is going through hardships financially, taking risks, investing time, money and energy to get dreams accomplished.
What’s a life motto you try to live by?
Nemizzo: Keep your head up in any situation.
Santa Sallet: If you ain’t gonna be a part of the greatest, you gotta be the greatest yourself.
What’s the biggest lesson you can share for other indie artists trying to make it?
Nemizzo: The biggest lesson is to keep going no matter what, staying informed and consistent both creatively and business wise to achieve your goals. Building a team around you is also necessary to go further in music.
Santa Sallet: Take the time to define what “making it” means to you. I often ask my team, what does it look like to succeed to you? Describe it to me. Having a clear idea will help you stay focus on developing a plan and enjoying your success based on your own standards, not others.
What’s your take on the industry today?
Any shoutouts?
Nemizzo: The state of the industry is getting better for the people who understand the way it functions, because it’s a business. The misinformation creates false hope and no results.
Shout Out to the MSP family and all the Nemizzo listeners.
Santa Sallet: It is what it is, just like any other business. The game is always changing and evolving and the victory goes to those who can adapt.
