DJ Premier Releases ‘Hip Hop 50 Volume 1’ Feat. Nas, Lil Wayne, Run The Jewels & More

Mass Appeal Announces DJ Premier's Hip Hop 50 Volume 1

DJ Premier and Mass Appeal release new album that features many well known artists.

When DJ Premier recently posted an ambiguous 10-second clip on socials from his studio where you could hear Nas rapping “rocking with Preem is nothing short of amazing,” the internet was understandably set ablaze. What were Premier and Nas up to? Traditionally, anytime they decided to activate the bat signal, it was an immediate indication that something monumental was about to transpire.

Now, that those lingering questions have been answered, it’s only right that the culture’s foremost architects set off Mass Appeal’s Hip Hop 50: The Soundtrack with the first installment Volume 1.

With his first proper project since the release of Gang Starr’s historic and chart-topping, One Of The Best Yet, DJ Premier’s new project celebrates the sound of Hip-Hop’s pre-eminent producer and he tapped a star-studded list of esteemed guests for DJ Premier: Hip Hop 50 Volume 1, which includes appearances from Nas, Lil Wayne, Run The Jewels, Joey Bada$$, Remy Ma, Rapsody and Slick Rick.

“I will always seize the moment of being unique when it comes to releasing music” Premier declares. “To be a part of Hip Hop 50 is an additional blessing to preserving the culture.”

The Soundtrack will encompass a series of 10 EPs of all newly released music that will bring together the industry’s most highly regarded producers who are defining the landscape of music and culture in celebration of 50 years of Hip Hop. Following DJ Premier’s EP release, fans can look forward to new music curated by Swizz Beatz, Mustard, The-Dream, Mike Will Made It, No I.D., Hit-Boy, Take A Daytrip and Tainy.

The entire series will be distributed via Mass Appeal’s new deal with The Orchard. Bringing together some of the biggest names in Hip Hop, this project will further solidify the #HipHop50 movement as it not only captures 50 years of culture but will also honor some of the latest and greatest to do it. A portion of all #HipHop50 proceeds will be donated to various charitable organizations, including, the Universal Hip Hop Museum set to open its doors in 2024.

Mass Appeal’s massive #HipHop50 initiative includes strategic partnerships, immersive global activations, and innovative content/programming in celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th birthday. Mass Appeal recently announced its partnership with Live Nation Urban to produce live event programming. From Park Jams to Festival stages, this partnership will create moments that will bring together the voices that turned Hip Hop into a way of life.

Additionally, Mass Appeal has its #HipHop50 premium content partnership with Paramount + / Showtime, which has aired documentaries such as: YOU’RE WATCHING VIDEO MUSIC BOX, CYPRESS HILL: INSANE IN THE BRAIN and more. Fans can look forward to SUPREME TEAM premiering on July 10th. Last year, Mass Appeal also launched its Spotify Original podcast – The Bridge: 50 Years of Hip Hop – hosted by Grammy-Award-winning artist Nas and radio personality Minya “Miss Info” Oh.
