Kendrick Lamar – Talks about J. Cole Collaboration Delays

Kendrick Lamar - Toca Tuesday FreestyleKendrick Lamar discusses his collaboration with J. Cole and how working on his solo LP has delayed the project. He also opens up about what it’s like to work with Cole.

From being co-signed by Dr. Dre, and even sought after for a collabo by Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city LP is one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the year, but it’s K-Dot’s collaboration with J. Cole that has fans wondering when it will drop.   In a recent interview with GlobalGrindTV, Kendrick talked about the project with J. Cole and the reason for the delays.  He also shed some light on their relationship, and why he chose to work with Cole.

The Compton rapper takes full blame for the delay in the release of his work with J.Cole, and cites his upcoming album as the source, via HHDX, “You can put the blame on me, just off the fact that my debut album coming up. I have to make that priority.”   He didn’t want to spread himself too thin working on multiple projects, “I didn’t want to [work on] too many different projects. Gotta keep that focus [on his album]. Cole understands that.”

Kendrick then discussed why he chose to work with J. Cole, and besides his talent on the mic, K-Dot enjoys working with Cole because he is honest and open as an artist.  “The reason why I really mess with dude is because he’s so genuine as a person. A lot of times you come across other rappers or other artists, and the competitive spirit is always there,” Kendrick explained, “It’s there so much that you can’t even talk to them as person. But Cole is one of them dudes that’ll tell you his faults, his mistakes, and his insecurities, and his highs.”
