There are many changes happening at Def Jam right now. Def Jam Records has promotes Shawn “Pecas” Costner to Executive Vice President after Sha Money XL makes the move to Epic.
The year has not started well for Def Jam with a few changes taking place at the top. They also saw the departure of President Joie Manda in March, who moved to join the urban team at Interscope Records.
They (Def Jam) needed to take action, and they did with an internal promotion. Isn’t this what we all go to work is to be appreciated and given the opportunity to climb that proverbial ladder. Well Shawn “Pecas” Costner has been provided this opportunity by Def Jam as they have promoted him to Executive Vice President from his position as Senior VP. He is now a C-Level employee.
“Def Jam [Records] is the greatest Hip Hop label in the world and it is an honor and a privilege to work with such incredible artists every day,” Costner said in a press statement. “I am appreciative of [Island Def Jam Records President] Steve Bartels for his leadership and his continued faith in me as we move the Def Jam brand into the future. With our talented staff, an unprecedented roster of superstars and an exciting crop of newcomers, we are poised to win big in 2013 and beyond.”
Pecas has been with Def Jam since 2005, after previously working at Elektra and Arista Records earlier in the decade.
