Verses Project announces live benefit (NYC July 8th) headlined by NEMS!

— A special benefit concert for the Verses Project has been announced for Friday, July 8th at Chelsea Music Hall (407 W. 15th St, New York, NY 10011). The event will raise money to provide annual grant awards to aspiring artists. A tiered donation structure offers tickets, exclusive t-shirts, custom glassware and raffle entries for a variety of prizes.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Verses Foundation, Inc. a 501(c)(3)-pending. The Verses Foundation was established in the name of the late Jason “Vice Verses” Williams, underground hip-hop mainstay and co-founder of the legendary End Of the Weak MC Challenge and showcase.

The concert will feature a headlining performance by Gorilla NEMS, a regular fixture at End Of The Weak, who achieved viral fame and will be performing at Rolling Loud this year.

Asked about the importance of this project, NEMS said “Vice was a very close friend of mine. He’s one of the reasons I am the artist I am today. When I was a young artist coming up, he always made sure that I got my time on the microphone at EODUB. And he was there from the beginning of FYL, from almost the beginning of my career, and he’s about to drop this album, “The Crown”. Make sure y’all keep his memory alive, because he was a great person.”

Additional performers include Figueroa, a co-host of End Of The Weak, as well as winners of the inaugural Verses Project artist grants.

The event will be hosted by Big Ox, Baxter Words and DJ Fred Ones (Guerrilla Grooves Radio). Big Ox was Vice Verses’ partner in various ventures including The Idea Factory Recording Studio, which boasts artists such as Rome Streetz, Jarobi (A Tribe Called Quest) and Math Hoffa.

The highlight of the evening is a celebration of The Crown, Vice Verses’ posthumous last album, which was just released. The album features singles “Count On Me” featuring Big Ox, Prolific Wone and Slaine and “Wandering Why” featuring Shabaam Sahdeeq and Big Zoo.
