DillanPonders drops off his new “King Of The Town” video.
critically-acclaimed and skilled Toronto rapper DillanPonders drops the video for “KING OF THE TOWN” — the third and final single off his widely celebrated full-length album BECAUSE WE’RE ALIVE, which dropped last month (Dec. 11, 2020). Following the success of his recent singles, “JUNGLE” (featuring rising star and Indigenous singer/songwriter Ruby Waters and currently in heavy rotation on Flow 93.5), and “DISTURBIA” (featuring critically-acclaimed and genre-bending singer Allan Rayman), on “KING OF THE TOWN”, DillanPonders explores unwavering self-confidence and knowing when it’s the right moment to flex on yourself, all up against an undeniable hard-hitting beat that requires the highest volume setting.
“There’s a time and space for humility, but also a time for unwavering self-confidence and belief in oneself,” says DillanPonders. “‘KING OF THE TOWN’ is that feeling I get when I step inside the studio — I know it’s time to remind myself how great I am, and put everyone on notice at the same time. If you don’t truly love and believe in your own shit like that, who will?”
The brand new video is directed by Sam Szigeti whose team at Breathe Entertainment are also behind recent videos for Jessie Reyez, Allan Rayman, Harrison, and also made Dillan’s recent video for “JUNGLE”. The concept for the “KING OF THE TOWN” video explores the world of street artists with a glimpse into the ecosystem that exists under the surface of a city. Szigeti feels these street artists are the ones who truly bring colour to the city. Their graffiti canvases are often torn down alongside historical buildings to be replaced by condos — but they love and believe in their work no matter what barriers there are, so they push through — themes echoed through “KING OF THE TOWN”. The video also features cameos from Toronto artists and longtime friends of Dillan’s, Terrell Morris, JiMMY BRiCKZ, iamSeTdoe, and CASTLX.
