Dana Coppafeel, SPEAK Easy, & Signif – Coolin’

Dana Coppafeel, SPEAK Easy, & Signif connect for this new “Coolin'” video.

Milwaukee roots run deep. Like the big, leafy oak tree that cracks the concrete and pushes up the sidewalk squares in the middle of your block. Branches might get trimmed or broken off from time to time, but those roots are always going to be there, just below the surface. In the case of “Coolin’”, the latest video single from Uni-Fi Records’ #RapLords album, those roots stretch to the red clay dirty south of Atlanta, all the way to the concrete jungle of hip-hop’s birthplace in NYC. The song features Dana Coppafeel, whose 20+ years of musical history in Milwaukee has so many branches that he is a veritable tree unto himself. One such outgrowth being the aforementioned #RapLords project, an album-length collaboration with SpeakEasy, a Milwaukee native recently uprooted to Atlanta, who continues to be one of the most reliably dope MCs wherever he plants his feet.

On this track we are also blessed with the breezy cool of Signif, another Milwaukee transplant who never fails to deliver her unique vibe to any track she’s featured upon. With crisp production from Mammyth—aka the Wizard of Walker’s Point, who never fails to provide the perfect sonic backdrop for any combination of MCs, singers, etc.—you get a laconic, jazzy beat that fizzes and pops like a just opened can of soda fresh out the cooler. An endlessly replayable track that wouldn’t sound out of place on an album like Digable Planets’ Blowout Comb or Connected by The Foreign Exchange. Summer is in full swing y’all, so kick back and cool out underneath the ample shade provided by one of the sturdiest and most far-reaching branches that Milwaukee hip-hop has to offer.
